01 Introduction
This Cookie Policy explains how PacificStayGuide uses browser storage and similar technologies, why we use them and how you can control them. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
PacificStayGuide does not have user accounts and does not set cookies of its own. This policy is therefore short on cookies and detailed on the browser storage the website does use. We have tried to describe each item so that you can see exactly what is kept on your device.
02 Understanding Cookies
Cookies are small text files that a website asks your browser to save. They are commonly used to remember settings or to recognise a returning visitor. Similar technologies, such as browser storage, serve comparable purposes.
Cookies vary in several ways. Session cookies disappear when you close the browser, while persistent cookies remain for a set period. First-party cookies are set by the website you are visiting, while third-party cookies are set by another organisation whose content appears on the page.
03 Cookies and Local Storage
This website does not set cookies of its own. Instead it uses Web Storage, namely localStorage, which stays on your device until it is cleared, and sessionStorage, which is deleted when you close the tab. Third-party content that you choose to load, such as Google Maps, may set its own cookies.
The difference between the two kinds of storage is simple. Cookies are sent back to the server with each request, whereas localStorage and sessionStorage stay in your browser and are read only by the page’s own scripts. Our stored items are never used to follow you around other websites.
04 Why Browser Storage Is Used
We use browser storage for two simple reasons: to remember that you have confirmed you are an adult, and to remember the cookie choices you have made. Without it, you would be asked the same questions on every page.
If you reject optional storage, the website continues to work normally. The only effect of blocking all storage is that you may be asked to confirm your age and to make your cookie choice again on each page.
05 Strictly Necessary Storage
Strictly necessary storage is always on because the website cannot respect your choices without it. It covers the age self-declaration and the record of your cookie consent. It is not used for tracking or advertising.
| Storage key | Type | Purpose | Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
psg_age_confirmed | localStorage | Stores the date and time at which you confirmed that you are 18 or older, so the age prompt is not repeated on every page. | Strictly necessary | Until you clear your browser data |
psg_age_denied | sessionStorage | Records that you answered “under 18” so the restriction remains in place while you browse. | Strictly necessary | Until the browser tab is closed |
psg_cookie_consent | localStorage | Stores your choices for functional, analytics and marketing categories, a version number and a consent timestamp. | Strictly necessary | Until you clear your browser data or change your choices |
| Functional preferences | — | No functional preferences are currently stored by this website. | Functional | Not applicable |
| Google Maps (third party) | Cookies set by Google | Only after you click “Load Google Map”. Names and durations are determined by Google. | Third-party content | Set by Google |
Because these items are needed to run the age prompt and to honour your consent choices, they do not depend on your consent. We list them here for transparency.
06 Functional Preferences
Functional storage would remember optional interface preferences, such as a display setting. No functional preferences are currently stored. The category exists so that your choice is recorded in advance, and it is off by default.
Typical functional items on other websites include language settings, display preferences or remembered form entries. This website does not use any of these today. If we introduce one, it will stay off until you allow the Functional category.
07 Analytics Technologies
Analytics tools measure how visitors use a website. No analytics technologies are active on this website at present. If that changes, we will update this policy and load them only after you have opted in.
Analytics tools usually record which pages are viewed, how long visitors stay and how they arrived. This website does not carry out that kind of measurement now, which means we do not know how many people read a given page.
08 Marketing Technologies
Marketing technologies support advertising and remarketing. None are active on this website at present, and none will be loaded without your consent.
Marketing technologies commonly build interest profiles or show adverts on other websites. PacificStayGuide does not run advertising, and the Marketing category is shown only so that your preference is ready should that ever change.
09 Third-Party Services
When a page loads, your browser requests typefaces from Google Fonts and icons from the cdnjs service operated by Cloudflare. These requests reveal your IP address and browser details to those providers. We do not use these services to track you, and we do not set cookies for them. Delivery of the contact form uses the FormSubmit service when you submit a message.
The third-party services involved in delivering the website are Google Fonts, the cdnjs service from Cloudflare (for icons), FormSubmit (for contact form delivery) and, if you click to load it, Google Maps. Each provider may process technical information such as your IP address. See our Privacy Policy for more detail.
10 Embedded Google Maps
Hotel pages offer an embedded Google Map. It is not loaded automatically. A consent gate asks you to click “Load Google Map” first. Once loaded, Google may set cookies and collect information according to its own policies. Reloading the page returns the map to its unloaded state.
The map shows the hotel’s location and offers directions. Because loading it connects your browser to Google, we ask first. If you would rather not load it, use the “Get Directions” link or the address shown beside the map, and open the location in the mapping service of your choice.
11 Managing Consent
When you first visit, a banner offers three choices: Accept All, Reject Optional and Customise. Rejecting is as easy as accepting. Optional categories are off unless you turn them on, and your choice is stored with a timestamp so we do not ask again on every page.
Until you make a choice, all optional categories remain off. The banner stays on screen so that you can decide, and your decision applies to every page of the website on the same browser. If you use another browser or device, you will be asked again.
12 Cookie Duration
Your cookie choices and age declaration remain in localStorage until you clear your browser data or change your choices. The under-18 marker lasts only for the browser session. We do not set an automatic expiry on the stored consent, but you can change or withdraw it at any time.
13 Browser Controls
Most browsers let you view, block and delete cookies and site data from their settings. Clearing site data for pacificstayguide.com removes the items listed above, and you will be asked the age and cookie questions again on your next visit. Blocking all storage may stop the age prompt from being remembered.
The exact steps depend on the browser, but in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari you will usually find cookie and site data controls under Settings or Preferences, in the Privacy or Security section. You can also browse in a private window, in which case stored items are removed when the window is closed.
14 Updating Preferences
You can change your choices at any time using the button below or the “Cookie Settings” link in the footer of every page.
Your new choices take effect immediately, and the previous record is replaced by one carrying the date and time of the change.
15 Withdrawing Consent
You can withdraw consent for optional categories whenever you like by opening the cookie settings, switching categories off and saving. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything done before you withdrew it. To remove stored items completely, clear your browser’s site data.
Rejecting or withdrawing optional categories is as simple as accepting them. You can use the Reject Optional button on the banner or switch each category off in the settings.
16 Storage Security
Browser storage is held on your own device and is readable only by pages from this website. It contains no passwords or payment details. Anyone with access to your device may be able to view it through the browser’s developer tools.
As a precaution, we recommend that you clear site data if you share a device with other people and do not want them to see your choices.
17 Changes to the Cookie Policy
If we change the storage keys we use or add new technologies, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent again. The storage table above reflects what the website does today.
We will revise this policy whenever the website’s storage practices change, and the table above will always show what the website currently uses.
18 Contact Information
Questions about this policy can be sent to [email protected].
If you would like to ask how a particular item is used, include the storage key listed in the table above and we will explain it.
